Proxy servers acts as an intermediary between the remote server and
client.When a client requests a resource (webpage ,file) it connects
with the proxy server instead of directly connecting with server.Proxy
server downloads the requested file from remote server and then it is
sent to client.
So, by using a proxy server a client never comes in a direct contact with remote server.Proxies can be used to bypass the internet censorship in colleges ,schools and offices.Proxies can be following types
Transparent:-If you are using Transparent proxy then remote server can identify the actual IP address of client.

How to Set up Proxy Settings in any Browser
For Mozilla Firefox:-
- Open your Mozilla Firefox browser and click on Tools button.
- Select Options from the dropdown list.
- Now click on Advanced Tab and select Network Tab.
- Click on Settings button.
- In the pop-up window select Manual Proxy Configuration. In the HTTP Proxy field give the IP address of the proxy server that use want to use and in the Port field give Port Number of the proxy server. Also put check mark on Use this proxy server for all protocols.
- Click OK and then again on OK.
For Google Chrome:-
- Open you Chrome browser.
- Click on Wrench Icon and select Options from the dropdown menu.
- Now select Under the Hood option from the left window pane and in the Network section of right window pane click on the Change Proxy Settings.
- Now select Connections Tab and then click on LAN Settings.
- In the pop-up window put Check Mark on the Use a Proxy Server. In the Address field give the IP address of the proxy server that use want to use and in the Port field give Port Number of the proxy server.
- Click OK and then again on OK.
For Internet Explorer:-
- Open your Internet Explorer browser and click on Tools button.
- Select Internet Options from the dropdown menu.
- Now select Connections Tab and then click on LAN Settings.
